class=\"footnotes\"><p>Anti-D prophylaxis is recommended in the 28<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;to 30<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;week of pregnancy for all RhD-negative women during pregnancy. However, Anti-D prophylaxis is not necessary if the fetus is RhD-negative as well.<\/p><p>The Rhesus&nbsp;<a class=\"encyclopedia\" title=\"Non-invasive prenatal tests are molecular genetic analyses in prenatal diagnostics to detect fetal chromosomal anomalies from the maternal blood, avoiding the risk of miscarriage inherent in more invasive methods.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cenata.de\/en\/encyclopedia\/nipt\/\" target=\"_self\">NIPT<\/a>&nbsp;enables the non-invasive determination of the&nbsp;<a class=\"encyclopedia\" title=\"Relating to the unborn child\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cenata.de\/en\/encyclopedia\/fetal\/\" target=\"_self\">fetal<\/a> Rh factor in singleton and twin pregnancies. Non-invasive means that we only use the mother&rsquo;s blood to determine the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cenata.de\/en\/encyclopedia\/fetal\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Relating to the unborn child\" class=\"encyclopedia\">fetal<\/a> Rh factor. Hence, there is absolutely no risk to the fetus, as the Rhesus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cenata.de\/en\/encyclopedia\/nipt\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Non-invasive prenatal tests are molecular genetic analyses in prenatal diagnostics to detect fetal chromosomal anomalies from the maternal blood, avoiding the risk of miscarriage inherent in more invasive methods.\" class=\"encyclopedia\">NIPT<\/a> only requires taking blood from the mother.<\/p><p>Similar to other non-invasive prenatal tests, we use the cell-free <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cenata.de\/en\/encyclopedia\/fetal\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Relating to the unborn child\" class=\"encyclopedia\">fetal<\/a>&nbsp;<a class=\"encyclopedia\" title=\"Deoxyribonucleic acid: biomolecule and carrier of genetic information\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cenata.de\/en\/encyclopedia\/dna\/\" target=\"_self\">DNA<\/a>&nbsp;present in the mother&rsquo;s blood. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cenata.de\/en\/encyclopedia\/fetal\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Relating to the unborn child\" class=\"encyclopedia\">fetal<\/a>&nbsp;<em>RHD<\/em>&nbsp;gene is examined by means of PCR. Statistically, about 40% of the children of RhD-negative pregnant women are also RhD-negative, correspondingly a RhD-positive child can be expected in 60% of the tests.<\/p><p><strong>W<\/strong><strong>ith the Rhesus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cenata.de\/en\/encyclopedia\/nipt\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Non-invasive prenatal tests are molecular genetic analyses in prenatal diagnostics to detect fetal chromosomal anomalies from the maternal blood, avoiding the risk of miscarriage inherent in more invasive methods.\" class=\"encyclopedia\">NIPT<\/a>, unnecessary Rh prophylaxis can be avoided in every second to third pregnancy of RhD negative mothers.<\/strong><\/p><p>The reliability of the Rhesus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cenata.de\/en\/encyclopedia\/nipt\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Non-invasive prenatal tests are molecular genetic analyses in prenatal diagnostics to detect fetal chromosomal anomalies from the maternal blood, avoiding the risk of miscarriage inherent in more invasive methods.\" class=\"encyclopedia\">NIPT<\/a> is very high. If it is performed after the 20<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;week of pregnancy (19+0), the sensitivity and specificity are:<br>Sensitivity: 99.93%&nbsp;<sup class=\"footnote\"><a id=\"fnref-5488-1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cenata.de\/en\/the-rhesus-nipt\/#fn-5488-1\">1<\/a><\/sup><br>Specificity: 99.61%&nbsp;<sup class=\"footnote\"><a id=\"fnref-5488-2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cenata.de\/en\/the-rhesus-nipt\/#fn-5488-2\">2<\/a><\/sup><\/p><p>The Rhesus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cenata.de\/en\/encyclopedia\/nipt\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Non-invasive prenatal tests are molecular genetic analyses in prenatal diagnostics to detect fetal chromosomal anomalies from the maternal blood, avoiding the risk of miscarriage inherent in more invasive methods.\" class=\"encyclopedia\">NIPT<\/a> can be performed earlier, namely from the 12th week of pregnancy (11+0) on.
